Directed by Jasmin Dizdar and staring Luke Mably, Ana Ularu, and Tomasz Aleksander, the 2016 film Chosen tells the story of an unassuming young lawyer leading a fight against the Nazis near the end of World War II.
When Fiction and
History Collide
The masters of cinema are often described as those whose movies we want to pause on every frame, and yet we rarely ever do. Our intention in this serendipitous assignment was precisely to play with this tension between motion and stillness, as well as between fiction and reality. We entered the story, forgetting we were ever on a set, to go back in time and seize instants where the line between story and history gets — as it always is anyways — extremely blurry.
